Personality:

A misguided youth who treasures his friends and relationships more than he’d ever let them know. He’s fast to attach himself to others and full of charm of both the unwitting and practiced varieties. Loyal and responsible, he’s the first to apologize in any situation, because thinking back, he’s usually the one at fault.

His lackadaisical nature has only sprung into being for the last two years. It is a cover for the underlying and constant frustration that he feels when confronted by his sheer averageness. He’s notoriously unambitious and noncompetitive as a result and takes great pains for this fact to be kept a secret. A slightly dishonest lad, but not a cruel one.

Prone to accidental offense by saying the wrong thing at the wrong time in a desperate attempt to seem cool and suave, Kazama spends a large chunk of time fretting over his actions and despairing that he’s made a mistake. His idealistic tendencies, thoughtless words, and gullible nature often lead him in trouble.

History:

Born in quiet city of Iwamori to childhood friends Reiko and Shun, Mori Kazama had always been a healthy lad. He was tall for his age, and smart- Standing above his preschool and primary school classmates in both stature and athleticism, and constantly complimented about his advancement. Kazama beamed at the praise, because it cemented something that he’d found- He was just that good, he barely needed to put in any effort to make adults and his fellow students adore him, and when he tried, he could run and jump and play as with the best of them. He was happy, surrounded by childhood friends, and gifted in as many ways as a child could be. But he wasn’t gifted. He was just ahead for his age.

As the rest of his schoolmates and classmates grew, Kazama’s early lead petered off. Suddenly, he wasn’t first or second place anymore- He was third, then fourth, then fifth and sixth. He wasn’t the fasted, he wasn’t the tallest, nor was he even the smartest- and perhaps the most damning, all that praise and admiration that had been showered upon him just for doing everyday things dried up at a commensurate rate.

This growing void in his life shook him- What had happened? Had he done something wrong with his above average talents? Had he somehow let them atrophy in the laziness of childhood fun? Was that all that he was adored for?

His junior high days began- and he began to work at those talents that had once been so easy, at running, at classwork, at standing out from his peers. He bounced from club to club, searching and failing to find the one that let him become what he wanted to be again- Admired. There was always someone better, someone with the talent that had slipped away from him, that would stand above him no matter what he did. Every time he failed, he slipped away from his once-great pedestal. He couldn’t be the best again- Even if he were to surpass the nearest and closest person, there would just be someone else, someone who dedicated all of their time to being the best, and who, to him, would beat him before he could even start.

So perhaps- It would be better to just act like he wasn’t trying. He could be cool, and back on his throne once again, just by acting like this average wasn’t his best. By hinting that he could do more.

In the end, Mori Kazama just wanted to be liked.

He’d finally stumbled upon his own ‘truth’, at the end of those unpleasant, meddlesome days at the beginning of puberty: He wasn’t a talented person, nor was he a untalented person- He was just a person.  Average in every way, someone who wouldn’t be the best at anything- So why bother in ways that could be measured and quantified as competition? Instead, why not just be decently good at something people couldn’t measure him for- like being social?

Armed with his ‘realization’, he advanced to high school in the middle of the pack, and settled down- Or at least tried to. After another year of mediocrity being rubbed into his face, he’s started to feel ansty. But that would mean his realization was wrong, and that couldn’t be the case. ....Could it?

Trivia:

Neither good or bad at archery(like many things), but joined the club in his first year because he thought archery was cool.
His parents are surprisingly lax when coming to their son, which gave him freedom to become whatever he wanted- which turned out to be a disillusioned youth with dreams of the big city.

Kazama, his parents, and his grandparents live in the same large farmhouse and they dote on their child despite his insistence that he’s being a rebellious teenager.

Sprinkles English words into his speech seemingly at random- Somewhere along the way, he got it into his head that was how people in Tokyo spoke.

His dating relationships never really last long, and he goes crying to Kaho every time one ends.

His charm point is his eyebrows.

Relationships:

Mori, Reiko: Kazama’s mother. She married into the Mori family from another local farming family at an early age, and never looked back. She’s perfectly satisfied with her farming life, but thinks her son deserves a chance to chose how he wants to live.

Mori, Shun: Kazama’s father. He was never able to take a trip around Japan or the world in his youth due to his mother’s influence, and is thus supports Kazama’s claims that he’ll move to the city. Loud and likes exercising under the sun.

Mori, Asuka: Kazama’s grandmother, the matriarch of the Mori family and the main support behind getting Kazama to get married and take over the farm as soon as he can. A good natured and well intentioned woman who verges into overbearing territory.

Mori, Ichirou: Kazama’s grandfather, a man of few words and fewer troubles- he’s lived a good, long life, and still helps out on the farm. His pride and joy is the vegetable garden just behind the Mori household which is constantly in a state of “being updated for the times.”

Shirakawa, Kaho: Childhood friend who’s been consistently better than him at running and athletics for as long as he can remember- Their friendly rivalry has shifted over the years to close friendship. He rants to her about his issues and she carefully listens and gives advice and comfort when needed. Calls her by her personal name only.

Roleplay methods: Anything from HCs to Lit, with preference being on discord, twitter, or skype for the former and GDocs for the latter
